The Costa Rica Fulbright Association awarded Minister of Public Education Dr. Sonia Marta Mora Escalante as the Fulbright of the Year. Her selection was based on her effort and devotion to improve access and quality of education in Costa Rica.
Fulbright and other professional exchange program alumni joined Costa Rican President Luis Guillermo Solis –also alumni- and U.S. Ambassador S. Fitzgerald Haney to congratulate Minister Mora for her well-deserved recognition.
“Our Embassy works closely with the Ministry of Public Education and Sonia Marta has been an unconditional partner in our efforts to strengthen English teaching in the country and the processes to promote internationalization of education,” emphasized Ambassador Haney.
Dr. Mora affirmed that she could not be the woman and citizen she is today without that extraordinary trip she made for the path of knowledge and human coexistence that marked her life and “I expect this program continues vigorous, leaving indelible seals in more generations that could enjoy the opportunity that was opened by “the citizen of the world” – as President Clinton called William Fulbright.”
