Celebrating Ten Years of the American Corner in Limon!

Limón – February 15th, 2017

Ten years ago, the Embassy opened a very special site at the Limon Public Library, the American Corner, a place where users can learn more about the United States through new technologies, books,  magazines, free access to Internet, movies, workshops, exhibits and programs with different specialists.

Ambassador S. Fitzgerald Haney emphasized that the American Corner has become the Embassy’s main cultural and academic partner to connect with Afro-Costa Ricans on the Caribbean coast.

In its ten years, the American Corner has organized 400 programs for children, adolescents, professionals, and the elderly; has received more than 100,000 visitors; has inaugurated the Maker Space that includes special computer equipment to encourage creativity, including a 3-D printer and software to compose music and learn basic electrical engineering; and has launched Limon´s first “bookmobile” that takes technology, books and educational programs throughout the province.
