The Carmen Lyra Chidren’s Center opened its doors in Bribri, Pavas, offering a range of academic and extracurricular activities to elementary and secondary students such as tutorials in Math, Spanish and gardening. The home will also offer select at-risk youth between 2 and 8 years old psychological support.
The U.S. Embassy’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) supports this children’s center with computer and audiovisual equipment, as well as materials for workshops and furniture.
U.S. Ambassador Sharon Day said that this is the perfect example of inter-institutional cooperation between the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Public Education, the Costa Rican Social Security Agency (CCSS), the Municipality of San Jose, and NGO Fundamentes.
