On June 30, the U.S. Embassy, the Ministry of Public Security, and the Board of Port Administration and Economic Development of the Atlantic Coast (JAPDEVA) officially announced the signing of an agreement that will allow the construction of a new Coast
Guard Station and a dock at JAPDEVA’s facilities in Moín, Limón.

“These projects are the result of the close collaboration we have with Costa Rica. JAPDEVA gave its approval for the use of the site, the United States will donate the construction of the infrastructure, while and the Ministry of Public Security will
purchase the 85 foot vessel that will reinforce the fight against organized crime in Limón,”,
said U.S. Ambassador Cynthia Telles.
The United States will invest USD $4.5 million in the project, which is in the design phase. The construction of both structures is expected to conclude in 2026.

Minister of Public Security, Mario Zamora, said that the naval support the United States provides to Costa Rica demonstrates the partnership between the two nations in favor of justice and the defense of democracy.
