Costa Ricans can participate in Diversity Visa Program

Costa Ricans who wish to move to the United States as permanent residents can now enroll in the U.S. Department of State’s diversity visa program.

Those interested in participating in the program have until 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 to apply electronically at https://dvprogram.state.gov/.

To be considered, participants must have a high school diploma or two years of work experience within the last five years in a profession that requires at least two years of training or experience. In addition, they must include a current photograph that they have not submitted on previous occasions. Instructions on how to apply can be found here.

Applicants can verify on the same official website, as of May 4, 2024, if they have been selected. In order to make the consultation, it is essential to keep the confirmation number the system generates at the time of registration.

This is a free service offered by the U.S. Department of State that requires no intermediaries. The program does not send e-mails or request applicants to provide telephone numbers or bank accounts.

The Diversity Visa Program grants 50,000 permanent residency visas to people from countries with low levels of emigration to the United States, including Costa Rica.
