There have been recent cases of fraud related to the visa fee payment system in which visa applicants found their visa fee receipts were already used and therefore invalid for booking a visa appointment.
- The Embassy is investigating, and reminds applicants to protect their fee receipt carefully and not share it with anyone.
- There is no need to hire third party agents or expediters to assist with the visa application process, which is designed for applicants to complete the process for themselves by completing the visa application through our website and paying the visa fee directly either online or at Banco Nacional. If you choose to engage third party assistance, evaluate the service provider carefully before you share your personal information. Remember that you – as the applicant – remain personally responsible for the content of your application.
- Visa applicants who believe they are victims of fraud related to the visa application process should contact the Embassy by email: firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 4000-1976.
- It is important that victims of fraud also file a denuncia with the local law enforcement authorities, as this will help us in the investigation. When contacting the U.S. Embassy, please provide the denuncia case number.
