United States Helps Improve Sarapiqui and Coto Brus’ School Conditions

The 2023 school year arrived with new desks, appliances for the school cafeteria, and construction materials for students in Puerto Viejo of Sarapiquí and Limoncito of Coto Brus.

The U.S. Embassy Office of Defense Representative Humanitarian Assistance Program donated the equipment that benefits approximately 200 students, who did not have adequate infrastructure or furniture in their classrooms.

Home appliances for the school cafeteriaThe Liceo Rural Las Marías, in Puerto Viejo received 90 desks, as well as chairs and desks for teachers and home appliances for the school cafeteria, which serves meals to 100 students each day.

This high school also received construction materials to build five restrooms, since it previously had only one for the entire school community. The donation is valued at $25,000.

The U.S. Embassy also donated 96 desks to the Escuela Santa Rita in Limoncito, Coto Brus. The high-quality desks are designed to endure the climate conditions of the Costa Rican South Pacific region. This donation is valued at $11,000.
