The USNS Comfort hospital ship visited Costa Rica from July 21-29 to provide free medical attention in Chacarita and Barranca, Puntarenas.

The humanitarian mission of the ship concluded with excellent results: the Comfort staff attended 5,548 patients, performed 138 surgeries aboard and transformed thousands of lives.

Over five days of medical attention, the ship specialists worked jointly with Costa Rican Social Insurance Institution (CCSS) to take care of residents of the so-called Perla del Pacifico and other Costa Rican provinces, as well as hundreds of Venezuelans residing in Costa Rica.

The visit of the floating hospital benefits Costa Rican CCSS specialists as well. They will have the opportunity of serving as part of the professionals onboard the USNS Comfort. Without a doubt, an enriching experience for them.

The USNS Comfort visit to Costa Rica is part of a five-month humanitarian mission that visits several countries in the Americas and the Caribbean as part of the United States’ support to the political crisis in Nicaragua and Venezuela that has provoked migratory challenges region wide.
