The United States Embassy -through the U.S. Southern Command Humanitarian Assistance Program- did the first of two donations of medical protection equipment to the Costa Rican Social Security Institution (CCSS).

The equipment was purchased from local Costa Rican providers and it included:

A box with surgical gloves
These boxes are part of the 57.000 pairs of surgical gloves
  • 9.700 medical gowns
  • 57.000 pairs of surgical gloves.

There will be a second donation in a couple of weeks, whenever the supplies are available in the country. This second donation will be:

  • 20.700 surgical masks
  • 4.150 N-95 type masks
  • 2.250 pairs of protective glasses.

The two donations, valued at a total of USD 75,000, has special meaning for U.S. Ambassador Sharon Day who asserted that “it is an honor for the United States to support Costa Rica, especially the brave men and women of the medical services, as we jointly face the world pandemic of COVID-19“.
