Humanitarian Flights
The U.S. Embassy, in coordination with airlines United and Spirit and the Costa Rican government, has organized regular humanitarian flights since the closure of the Costa Rican border.
On these humanitarian flights, Costa Ricans have been able to return home, as have Americans. Early in the course of the pandemic, we urged Americans to return home if they were more comfortable there, or plan to remain where they were for the duration of the crisis. We are grateful to United and Spirit for continuing these humanitarian flights in both directions.
The Department of State has no higher responsibility than the safety and security of U.S. citizens, and we continuously publish information on each of our embassy’s websites regarding the latest on coronavirus cases in the country and local restrictions.
