The New Youth Ambassadors Are from Perez Zeledon

Nine young students from Perez Zeledon are participating in the Department of State Youth Ambassadors exchange program.

These students participate in workshops, community service activities, team-building exercises, and meetings with community leaders in Iowa and Chicago. Once students return to Costa Rica, they have the opportunity to apply what they have learned during the exchange program by designing and developing projects that will address the needs of their communities.

U.S. Ambassador Sharon Day encourage the students to give the best of themselves since they are truly Ambassadors during this experience, so do not be too shy or nervous to use your English – the Americans you meet will want to hear from you about what life is like in Perez Zeledón.”

These nine students are part of the U.S Embassy Access English Microscholarship program that allows them to learn English. Since 2010, the Embassy has sent 95 Costa Rican participants to the United States on the Youth Ambassadors program.
