Interview Waiver Visa Appointments

Certain categories of travelers may apply for a U.S. visa without an in-person interview
(“interview waiver”). If you fall into one of the categories below, you may qualify to apply
through the Cargo Expreso Dropbox process.

Visa Renewal: B1, B2, B1/B2, C1, C1/D, I, O-1, or P-1

You may qualify to submit your renewal application for the same visa category
through the Cargo Expreso Dropbox if you meet the following qualifications:

  • You can provide your previous, full-validity visa.
  • The visa is currently valid or expired within the last 48 months.
  • You are a citizen or legal resident of Costa Rica.

Applicants 13 Years and Under

You may qualify to submit your application through the Cargo Expreso Dropbox if you
meet the following qualifications:

  • You are a citizen or legal resident of Costa Rica.
  • Both parents have valid U.S. visas.
  • For renewals: You can provide your previous, full-validity visa, and it is currently
    valid or expired within the last 48 months.

Applicants 80 Years and Older

You may qualify to submit your application through the Cargo Expreso Dropbox if you
meet the following qualifications:

  • You are a citizen or legal resident of Costa Rica.
  • You have never been refused a U.S. visa (unless the refusal was subsequently
    overturn).
  • For renewals: You can provide your previous, full-validity visa, and it is currently
    valid or expired within the last 48 months.

First Time J, F, and M Visa Applicants

You may qualify to submit your application through the Cargo Expreso Dropbox if you
meet the following qualifications:

  • You have/had a U.S. visa (any category) and you have never been refused a
    visa (unless the refusal was subsequently overturn).
  • You are a citizen or legal resident of Costa Rica.
  • Important: This option does not apply to J visas for Summer Work & Travel, Au
    Pair and language training programs. These programs require an interview.

First Time H-2A and H-2B Applicants

You may qualify to submit your application through the Cargo Expreso Dropbox if you
meet the following qualifications:

  • You have never been refused a U.S. visa (unless the refusal was subsequently
    overturn).
  • You are a citizen or legal resident of Costa Rica, and you are physically present
    in Costa Rica.
